10 graphic design trends for 2025

28 dec 2024

1. AI-powered design

Designers are increasingly incorporating AI into their workflows, using it as a personal assistant for inspiration, ideation, and adding finishing touches to designs. When used correctly, AI can be a powerful tool for creating unique and extraordinary designs. However, AI isn’t here to replace designers. While AI-generated images are great for non-designers to bring their ideas to life without the technical skills, designers can best utilize AI to enhance and amplify their own creative expertise.

2. Bold minimalism

Minimalism is making a stronger, bolder statement in 2025. Expect designs with fewer elements, but with a heavier focus on the ones that are included. Bold typography and striking color palettes will dominate simple, stripped-back designs, making a big impact with less.

''Bold minimalism isn’t about having less—
it’s about making every element count.''

3. Metallics

Metallic hues like silver, chrome, and other shiny tones are on the rise in 2025, with the metallic aesthetic becoming more prevalent by the year’s end. WGSN and Coloro have named “Future Dust” (a dark blue with purple and gray undertones) as the “Color of the Year,” setting the stage for more metallic and bold shades to take over.

4. Pixels

Pixelation is making a comeback in typography and branding, evoking a tech-inspired, retro feel. Surprisingly versatile, pixel designs work across various industries, offering a playful, modern vibe while nodding to the early digital era.

5. Shapes

2025 will see a more prominent use of bold, unique shapes that bring structure and depth to designs. Expect creative photos cropped into custom shapes, adding free-flowing, flexible, and dynamic elements to designs, with a fresh sense of character.

6. Textured Grains

In response to the perfection of AI-generated imagery, we’re embracing textured grains in graphic design. This trend adds depth and movement to designs, giving them a raw, tangible, and edgy feel—an intentional move toward imperfection in a digital world.

7. Maximalist Illustration

2025 will see a shift toward “more is more” in illustration. Expect complex, detailed, and vibrant artwork that captures attention and invites viewers to pause and appreciate every element. It’s all about creating intricate visuals that tell a rich story.

8. Retro Serif

Retro typography combined with modern layouts brings a nostalgic yet fresh twist to designs. Retro serif fonts are still popular, especially in branding, and their appeal is sticking around into 2025, offering a playful nod to the past with a contemporary edge.

9. Gothic Badges and Crests

Gothic fonts paired with badges and crests are gaining traction in branding and logo design. This trend conveys reliability and sophistication, bringing a touch of old-world elegance while making brands feel experienced and trustworthy.

10. Handcrafted

In contrast to AI-generated designs, there’s a shift towards more organic, handcrafted elements. Expect to see elements like hand-drawn lettering, earthy textures, and scrapbooking-inspired designs. The trend embraces the analog feel, offering a more human, tactile approach to visuals.
